This saw is for someone who needs an occasional-use band saw for light woodworking, scroll work, or hobby projects and wants the lowest possible entry price. The 9-inch throat and 3.5-inch max cut height make it suitable for thin stock, small curves, and craft work. It is not a resawing tool and is not suited to anyone expecting to cut hardwood regularly or work with stock thicker than 2-3 inches. If you're buying your first band saw and aren't sure you'll use it heavily, this is a low-risk entry point. If you already know you'll use it regularly, spend more and start with a 14-inch floor model.
